Description   Maori Manaia Pendant - For Maori the Manaia is the carrier of supernatural powers-the spiritual guardian which protects the wearer from evil. It is traditionally depicted with the head of a bird, the body of a man and the tail of a fish- creating a balance between sky, earth and the sea. This manaia is hand carved from greenstone sourced from the mouth of the Arahura River, Hokitika. The plaited cord is adjustable. The pendant is carved on both sides.
